Capital Punishment (Parts 1-4)

Guy walks into a bar . . . And then kills everybody. There's no question of his guilt in performing the killings.

But does that guilt make him morally deserving of death?

Is it the government's job to mete out capital justice?

KJ and Jay use the works of Johnny Cash to discuss the morality and legality of capital punishment. You can find KJ's article on this issue in Johnny Cash and Philosophy.

The Problem of Moral Evil (Part 1)

This is the first of four episodes where KJ and Jay tackle the Problem of Moral Evil.

Moral evil is generally referred to as something like 'bad things that occur because of the actions of moral agents (i.e. human beings).'

If you're not familiar, here's the short version of the problem:

1. If God is all-powerful, he can prevent moral evil.

2. If God is all-knowing, he knows how to prevent moral evil.

3. If God is all-loving, he wants to prevent moral evil.

4. Evil exists.

It doesn't seem like all four statements can all be true at the same time. (4) looks uncontroversial. (1-3) look pretty unpalatable for traditional theists. So what's a theist to do? How does someone reconcile these?

We look at some possible solutions in this four part series.

What Is Philosophy and Why Does It Matter? (Part 2)

KJ and Jay continue with an overview of what philosophy is and why it's important. If you're new to Philosophy and Pop Culture, make sure you listen to this two-part series first.
